Education teams are combining technology simulating the clinical environment with a novel ‘escape room’ format to help medical students at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW) develop their skills. Simulation technology enables the Trust’s Medical Education teams to recreate scenarios they may rarely experience in real life, and tests healthcare professionals in challenging situations. Hawkenbury Cricket Ground played host to the hotly-contested annual Consultants vs Trainees cricket match on Sunday 11 June. The 20 overs per side match took place in sweltering heat, watched by family and friends. In the absence of Dr Paul Moran who was unfortunately injured, Dr James Barron captained the Consultants and Dr Joshua Kader led the Trainees. Careers in medicine Last month we welcomed almost one hundred Year 11 and 12 students from 21 local schools to Tunbridge Wells Hospital for an evening of talks around a career in medicine. The evening aimed to provide information about what a career in medicine entails, with opportunities to talk to doctors and ask questions. Valentine’s Escape Room This month we carried out our second Medical Escape Room; this time with a Valentine’s motif. In this iteration we had teams of 4th and 5th year medical students race against the clock to untangle each clue and weave their way through some wild twists and turns to save our patient (and themselves) from heartbreak. TTF1 We have welcomed our new King’s College London Transition to F1 (TTF1) students this month and they had a clinical skills day as part of their induction. We have also delivered the first workshop on common clinical scenarios, where we used an online whiteboard called ‘mural’. Medical escape room This month we were very excited to introduce our first ever Medical Escape Room!
