Obstetrics & Gynaecology at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells
Specialty Obstetrics & Gynaecology training is offered at both Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells at Pembury, supported by 20 full-time Consultant Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, each with dedicated special interests. The department delivers comprehensive services spanning Antenatal Clinics, Gynaecology Out-Patients, and both Elective and Emergency Gynaecological care across both sites, with a two-tier SpR rota that has built an excellent reputation for surgical education, particularly in minimal access and pelvic floor surgery.
Clinical Services and Training Opportunities The department hosts numerous specialist clinics including High Risk Antenatal, Fetal Medicine, Out Patient Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy, Urodynamics & Specialist Urogynaecology, Fertility and Colposcopy. The integrated Level 2 Neonatal Unit accepts babies from 27 weeks gestation, while the Obstetric and Gynaecological ultrasound service operates within the Outpatient Department framework. A robust established training program encourages participation from all Trainees, featuring ultrasound training, simulation exercises, multidisciplinary collaboration, regular review meetings, and three formal teaching sessions weekly.
