Meet our Champions
Our Champions are dedicated medical professionals who provide specialised support in key areas. They are available to offer guidance and assistance on matters related to SuppoRTT, LTFT, and overall Wellbeing.

I am the SuppoRTT Champion at MTW assisted by Anita Mann (Medical Education Manager). I started working as an Emergency Medicine Consultant at the Trust in 2011 and throughout my career I have been heavily involved with postgraduate teaching and training, primarily teaching on Simulation START and ATLS courses.
I’m sure SuppoRTT would have streamlined my training, and removed vast amounts of worry and expense. Some of the brilliant aspects of SuppoRTT are:
- Tailored meetings before and shortly after your return. Also a meeting before you leave (if you are able to predict this).
- Possibility of supported work shifts, and optimisation of the rota when you initially return.
- Courses and simulation aimed at improving skills, human factors and team working.
My aim in this role is to increase awareness of this programme, and engage all specialties and trainees so that people can return to work in a more confident manner.
I plan to deliver up-to-date information to Resident Doctors in a variety of formats, from informal trainee-led presentations to inductions, LFG and LAB. There are also resources on the Trust intranet.
I welcome suggestions and feedback so please do not hesitate to contact me at mtw-tr.supportt@nhs.net.

I am the Champion of Less Than Full Time (LTFT) Training at MTW assisted by Alex Davis (Academic Centre Manager). This role is one I see as an exciting opportunity to improve flexible training for everyone involved.
I had my first child three years after qualifying and I am now a Consultant Gastroenterologist and mother of five girls, having benefited from training part time.
I am passionate about enabling others to experience the positives of flexible training and enthusiastic about making it more accessible and effective for everyone.
The systems we work within are traditionally designed for full time Trainees and incorporating the needs of LTFT Trainees into rotas and training programmes can be challenging. Please get in touch if you would like any information or if you would like to share your experiences of LTFT training in order to develop a deeper understanding of the current situation.
We host an annual LTFT day to celebrate and raise awareness of LTFT training in the hope that Consultants, Managers and Trainees from Kent, Surrey and Sussex will recognise their increasing importance and value to the NHS. This will hopefully encourage changes in the traditional systems that will have a positive impact on all trainees. We are available at mtw-tr.LTFT@nhs.net.

I am one of the Wellbeing champions for Resident Doctors and Medical Students at MTW. This role emerged during covid and has continued to expand. I started working as an Emergency Medicine Consultant at the Trust in 2018 and throughout my career I have been increasingly interested in improving the wellbeing of Doctors and Medical Students.
Since this role was established we have created a wellbeing support website to provide information at your fingertips.
We hold regular wellbeing sessions at work to allow you to take time out of your busy schedules to decompress.
Our Wellbeing partners hold stalls at these wellbeing events, so that you may be able to access Trust services.
As Wellbeing Champions, we also have one on one impartial meetings with Resident Doctors that are normally referred to us via Supervisors and Programme Directors. This allows us to signpost you to appropriate services.
Our Wellbeing Medical Education Fellows also organise games night for Residents and Medical Students.
I look forward to seeing you at the next Wellbeing event.
