The two Departments of Medicine for the Elderly are based at Maidstone Hospital and at Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury. Both offer a full range of training opportunities, both in GIM and Geriatric medicine. Both departments are fully integrated within the Medical Directorate. There is the potential for the training opportunities provided to each trainee to be adjusted to their particular PDP needs, after agreement with their Educational Supervisor.

Overview:
  • In-patient services for acute elderly care, acute
  • stroke care including 24 hour thrombolysis and orthogeriatric rehabilitation services
  • Stroke rehabilitation services
  • Intermediate care rehabilitative services
  • Out-patient clinics run by each Consultant at least once a week
  • Specialist clinics include TIA, Parkinson’s disease and a Fall’s clinic
  • Balance of acute elderly care and acute GIM experience with exposure to CCU and ITU training opportunities
  • Further training opportunities in palliative care, old age psychiatry, incontinence and uro-gynaecology (including uro-dynamics)
  • Opportunity to spend time in General Practice and gain managerial experience in the Community Trust
