Overview

In Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells there are fifteen consultant obstetricians and gynaecologists, each with special interests. The Department provides a full range of obstetric and gynaecology services, across 2 sites at Tunbridge Wells Hospital and at Maidstone General Hospital. Gynae-oncology is provided by 3 gynaeoncology consultants based at Maidstone. Outpatient services (antenatal and gynaecological) are provided at both sites. Elective daycase surgery is at both sites and inpatient surgery is at TWH. Acute services are based at TWH.

The consultant led obstetric unit is based in the new state of the art Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury and there is a maternity led birth centre at Maidstone. The total number of deliveries being 5700 in 2014. There is a daily early pregnancy unit and a number of specialist clinics, including Maternal medicine, diabetic antenatal, multiple pregnancy, Fetal Medicine, Out Patient Hysteroscopy, Colposcopy, Urodynamics and Specialist Urogynaecology, Fertility and rapid access.

The consultants work a ‘hot week’ Monday to Friday providing acute obstetrics and gynaecology. There is a two tier Registrar rota and the department has a very good reputation for surgical education, especially in minimal access surgery and pelvic floor surgery.

The Neonatal Unit provides a level 2 service, accepting babies from 27 weeks gestation. The obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound service integrates with the outpatient department and there are opportunities to learn some basic ultrasound skills during the placement.

ATSMs offered: Benign Abdominal Surgery, Gynae-oncology, Vulval Disease, Colposcopy, Medical Education, Advanced Labour Ward Practice, Labour ward lead, Advanced Antenatal Practice, Urogynaecologya and Liquid based Cystology training. Training Programme

ST1/2 -  1 in 16 full shift EWTD compliant rota

ST2/7 – 1 in 8 full shift EWTD complaint rota.

There is an established training programme which all trainees are encouraged to contribute to. The timetables include;

  • Ultrasond
  • Simulation
  • Multidisciplinary CS & CTG Review Meeting.
  • Gynaecology-oncology MDM Meeting
  • 3 formal teaching sessions per week
  • Monthly multi-disciplinary skills and drills

Salary Scale

All payscales can be found on the website below. The Trust is continually working with juniors to make sure all rotas are compliant. You will initially receive an offer letter followed by your contract which will give confirmation of the banding of your post. Payments policy

Employee salaries are paid on the 24th of the month. If this falls on a weekend salaries will be paid on the last working day.
