Acute Internal Medicine Training at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust
Higher Specialty training in Acute Internal Medicine is delivered across both Maidstone Hospital and the Tunbridge Wells Hospital at Pembury, offering a comprehensive educational experience with strategically designed rotations. At Maidstone Hospital, trainees benefit from rotations through Respiratory Medicine and Diabetes & Endocrinology while maintaining weekly dedicated time on the Medical Assessment Unit (MAU). The Tunbridge Wells Hospital rotation complements this experience with focused training in Respiratory Medicine and Cardiology. This dual-site approach ensures trainees develop broad expertise in managing acute medical conditions while gaining specialty-specific knowledge.
The program provides extensive hands-on experience in the full spectrum of acute medical care. Trainees participate actively in acute medical takes, manage patients on the Medical Assessment Unit, provide inpatient care for acute medicine patients, and respond to inpatient acute medicine referrals. This practical experience is enhanced through specialized clinics including acute medical follow-up, MAU clinics, and specialty clinics in Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Respiratory Medicine. The program’s integrated approach ensures trainees develop the clinical judgment and technical skills necessary for excellence in Acute Internal Medicine practice.
